Bangtail Muster to go ahead

The Bangtail Muster community parade, scheduled for this Monday, 4 May is scheduled to go ahead.

With almost all other sporting and social events cancelled or postponed due to what has occurred in Alice Springs this week, organisers made the decision to still hold the annual march after consulting with police and family members.

Bangtail Muster organiser, Eli Melky said some consideration was given to postponing, or even cancelling this year’s event all together.

“Despite the very sad events, the parade will still move forward, Mr Melky said.

“We have the support of the family to honour (Kumanjayi Little Baby), the lost beautiful girl,” he said

Mr Melky said the police were contacted and gave their support for the parade to go ahead.

“We contacted them and they believe that it’s a very low risk event, so we have their support at this stage, Mr Melky said on Friday morning, 1 May.

“At this moment, we are still proceeding with the Bangtail Muster 2026”

Mr Melky said all participants and officials will wear pink ribbons to honour the little girl.

“It’s a great way for the community to come together, put our arms around each other, and to put our arms around the family, he said.

:”We’ve all got to begin the healing process and this, I think, is an opportunity to do that.”
